A summary report on focus groups I facilitated for The Gerontological Society of America for its "Civic Engagement in an Older America" project is available here as a PDF file. Click on http://www.agingsociety.org/agingsociety/ to access GSA's policy recommendations on civic engagement to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging Policy Committee and the 2005 issues of Gerontological News, both of which reference my work.

Conduct research on facilitating favorable conditions for learning in online classes and online communities of practice. Read the research paper on discourse analysis (PDF file 485 KB) that an international study group and I did; a group member presented it at the 2005 AERA conference in Montreal. Or look at the two page learning support model (PDF file 143 KB) I developed with Faye Johnson to understand one view of the dynamics of learning for individuals within organizations.

Community Service
Created and continue to coordinate the TANN (Technology Assistance for Nonprofits Network) Task Force since 2003. TANN is a volunteer group of professionals representing nonprofits, public agencies, and private sector vendors who are interested in helping Greater Tampa Bay area nonprofits make better use of technology services and products for program delivery. See a briefing paper (PDF file, 415 KB) that Ann Larsen, former director of the MAP of Tampa Bay, and I assembled for a presentation to the Community Funders Forum early in 2005. TANN Force accomplishments in 2005 include offering a technology planning workshop to nonprofit leaders through the Rollins College, conducting an online survey on technology needs of nonprofits in the Tampa Bay area, and setting up a 501 Tech Club to serve as an online forum for folks interested in technology in nonprofits. More training and learning opportunities are in development. Click on http://sptimes.com/2005/02/14/Technology to read an article by Dave Gussow, the St. Pete Times technology features editor, on our efforts.
